2016 Day of Percussion

 

The Louisiana Tech University Percussion Studio is very happy to host the Louisiana Percussive Arts Society Day of Percussion on Saturday, April 23. Listed below are details pertaining to the schedule of events and performances, registration, parking and campus navigation, logistics, and meal options.

Clinicians and Guest Performers

Oliver Molina

Oliver Molina is an active percussion performer, educator, arranger, adjudicator and clinician. He is a versatile percussionist with experience in many areas of percussion, from orchestral to marching to jazz and many others. He has performed at various state Day of Percussion events, PASIC and other music education conferences. As an active soloist and chamber ensemble musician Oliver seeks new literature from composers and commissions new works. He is a doctoral candidate in Percussion Performance and Pedagogy at the University of Iowa. Oliver is an Assistant Professor of Music and Assistant Director of Bands at Northwestern State University of Louisiana. He is an education endorser of Vic Firth Sticks and Mallets, Remo Drum Heads, and Sabian Cymbals.

Kenneth Green

Ken Green is the Associate Director of Bands and Professor of Percussion at Northwestern State University of Louisiana. Having received wide recognition as a performer, conductor, educator, and arranger, he is in great demand as a clinician, consultant, and adjudicator. He holds degrees from the Crane School of Music at SUNY Potsdam, New York, and the University of Kansas. Mr. Green is the past President of the Louisiana Chapter of the Percussive Arts Society, a member of the Percussive Arts Society’s Marching Percussion Committee, Vice President of the International Association of Traditional Drummers, and Principal Timpanist with the Rapides Symphony Orchestra.  He holds memberships in Phi Beta Mu, Phi Mu Alpha, Sigma Alpha Iota, Kappa Kappa Psi, and Tau Beta Sigma fraternities. Ken Green is also a member of several adjudicators associations throughout the United States and Canada. His principal instructors have been Jim Petercsak, Harold Green, Nick Attanasio, John S. Pratt, Joe Morello, and George Boberg. Ken is proud to be an Artist/Endorsee for Innovative Percussion, and Grover Pro Percussion products.

Haughton Middle School, Tioga Jr. High School, Ouachita Jr. High School, DeQuincy High School, Haughton High School, Pineville High School, Ruston High School, Tioga High School, West Ouachita High School, Hamiruge: The LSU Percussion Group, Louisiana Tech University, and Northwestern State University


Parking and Location

All performances and clinics will occur in Howard Center for the Performing Arts, located on the corner of Dan Reneau Drive and Adams Boulevard. Two gravel parking lots on the North and South sides of Dan Reneau Drive are available for bus parking. Both Adams Boulevard and Dan Reneau Drive are available for street parking. Additional parking lots are located behind the Louisiana Tech Bookstore and Wyly Tower. Below are links to a campus map and directions to campus. Louisiana Tech University Percussion Ensemble members will be guiding traffic throughout the day.

Registration and Fees

Registration will be completed on the morning of the event.  Contact Gregory Lyons with any questions (glyons@latech.edu).

General admission to the Day of Percussion is $10.00. Entrance is free for members of the Percussive Arts Society. Visit pas.org to join or sign up at registration. Checks should be made payable to “Percussive Arts Society.” Members must present PAS ID or proof of current membership. 

Door prizes

Each attendee will receive one free door prize ticket. Additional tickets may be purchased for $1 each, six for $5, 15 for $10, or 35 for $20.

T-shirts

Day of Percussion t-shirts will be available for purchase. The estimated price is $20.

Recordings

Recordings will be available for purchase. The estimated price is $5.

Equipment

Louisiana Tech University will supply large percussion instruments including keyboard percussion, timpani, and a concert bass drum. We are also able to assist with smaller items such as snare drums, cymbals, and trap tables. Please communicate any equipment needs and requests to Gregory Lyons prior to the event. Meals

There are several affordable restaurants located close to campus including Dawg House Sports Grill, Ponchatoulas, Subway, Newk’s Eatery, Taco Bell, Raising Cane’s and Pizza Hut. A complete list of dining locations can be found at this link: Ruston Dining.
